Locally Sourced: Find Inspiration in Your Own Backyard
Writers from all genres and backgrounds are invited to attend Locally Sourced, a writing workshop focused on defeating writer’s block and finding inspiration in the downtown Mankato area.
Each meeting will include a craft talk, a discussion of published work that relates to the day’s topic, and a writing exercise. After each meeting, you can email your story or poem to the instructor, an MFA candidate at Minnesota State, Mankato and fiction writer, who will respond with written feedback. The final meeting will consist of a public reading—a celebration of our summer writing and opportunity to share our poems with peers, friends, and family.
This workshop is free and open to the public. While you’ll get the most out of attending all 5 sessions, walk-ins are welcome every week.
July 7: Finding Inspiration through Mixed Mediums
Sometimes the best cure for writer’s block is simply trying something new. We will read works from writers who dabble in a variety of art forms and discuss the power of mixed mediums before trying it out firsthand.
Instructor: Linnea Guerin comes from Madison, Wisconsin, where she enjoyed exploring the city and spending hours upon hours at the city’s art museums. She has a forthcoming story in Midwestern Gothic, and she is currently an MFA candidate in Fiction at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she teaches English Composition."
All sessions take place at the Emy Frentz Arts Guild, 523 S 2nd St, Mankato from Noon – 1PM. The last session, Open Mic, will take place at 7PM.
