Summit Avenue Music Series Concert (SAMS)
Featuring the Bekesh Trio with special guests Peter McGuire, Sabina Thatcher, and Jennifer Haugen

SAMS invites you to attend its second concert of the season on Sunday, February 18, 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Christ at Martin Luther College (1995 Luther Ct), New Ulm, Minnesota. This concert features the Bekesh Trio. The Bekesh Trio is comprised of pianist Dr. Bethel Balge, violinist Kenneth Freed and cellist Sharon Mautner-Rodgers. The program begins with a short song by Rachmaninoff, featuring soprano Jennifer Haugen. Two of the finest 19th century chamber works—Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in d minor and Schumann’s Piano Quintet Op. 44 in E-flat Major—fill the remainder of the program. The Mendelssohn Trio is both elegant and full of drama, demanding the utmost skill from its performers. Composed in 1842, the Schumann Quintet displays a wide array of emotions, from the intense desolation of the Funeral March movement to the exuberant joy in the final movement. Minnesota Orchestra violinist, Peter McGuire, and violist Sabina Thatcher join the Bekesh Trio to complete the Quintet.
