Life, Still: Plein Air paintings by Marjie Laizure
This Event Occurred in the Past.
Life, Still, will feature Plein Air paintings by Marjie Laizure. Marjie was awarded an Artist Career Development Grant from the Prairie Lakes Council for the Arts which allowed her the opportunity to attend the annual Plein Air Convention in San Diego, CA last April. Since attending the convention, she has seen the reflection of that experience in her work. Many of the pieces in Marjie's show were done after the learning experience of the convention. While only some of what is displayed in her show is plein air, most of her paintings are painted from life.
Marjie has no desire to be ironic in her work, but instead desires to create something that holds a little bit of beauty. Marjie strives to apply paint generously over a strong composition and focuses on brushwork, trying to say more with less. Marjie is a Mankato based painter who in recent years has exhibited frequently in local juried and group shows. In 2017, she received a “Juror's Award of Excellence” from the Carnegie Art Center’s annual juried exhibition, an Artists Career Development Grant from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council, and was a featured artist in the Mankato Magazine. Marjie retired in 2016 from teaching art in the Mankato school district and now spends her time painting and traveling.
The show opening on March 16th from 6-8, will feature a performance by the Minnesota based Jake Duda Band. Their music is a bluegrass style with a fun twist.
The exhibition is sponsored by Trudy and Lyle Kunkel.
