Riverfront presents a contemporary retelling of the classic Bournonville ballet "Napoli". Reset in the 1960's, Ivy League men and women escape to sunny Florida for spring break. There the Princetonian Johnny (Gennaro) is enamored of Rita (Teresina), a server at the bar "Old Napoli". Johnny takes Rita on a sail, although the weather looks rough. A storm breaks out and Rita is swept away to be stranded on an island of hippies presided over by an eccentric Birdwatcher. Through cunning and perseverance, Johnny rescues Rita and all celebrate in a mixture of old and new dances. Keeping the best of the original Act I and Act III choreography (1842), with new choreography and music for Act II, this ballet showcases Riverfront's astonishing male dancers.
