SUMMER ABOARD A RESEARCH SHIP

Eric Koser, Mankato West High School, Presenter
Eric Koser is a physics teacher by day. After he was accepted into a program called Teacher at Sea with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), he spent more than two weeks last summer working on the NOAA research vessel, The Rainier. A hydrographic research ship’s primary task is to create and update maps of the ocean floor. NOAA creates and maintains all the navigational charts that are used by mariners to assure safe navigation. He will recount his experience living aboard ship with scientists in southeast Alaska.
