Tombstones of Blue Earth County

“Tombstones of Blue Earth County” stems from one of our photography club assignments, (of the same title). Seeing the results instills an understanding of what some of the early inhabitants of our county endured. Women sometimes died very young during childbirth, or babies and young children passed during the early years of their lives were hard and sad times for families settling our area. Many of the tombstones photographed suffer from years of neglect, after the families of those interred passed away or moved to another part of the country. In some cases, even the cemetery itself appears to have been forgotten, overgrown with weeds and brush and slowly returning back to nature. Many of these photos will give the viewer a sense of what the family of those buried beneath the stones felt as the markers were placed over their lost loved one.
